BC Bike Race
This was the first year for the BC Bike Race. Having been attended and won by Chris Eatough and being in a location that screams mountain bike trail, singletrack and epic.
I think that it won't be long till this event eclipses a few of the other races and actually delivers what can arguably be called mountain biking.
This year 105 teams set out, over 7 days, 550 km's and 35 000 feet of climbing from the Capital of Victoria BC to the World class resort of 2010 Olympics, Whistler BC.
The days were long, hot and hard, the scenery amazing and the singletrack fun enough to make even the most hardened race warrior giggle.
Having just completed my second La Ruta, my fifth Trans Rockies and done the Trans Alp, I can confirm that; it is the different flavours of all these countries and races that will enable all of them to succeed.
What makes the big ones big? An ability to vocalize what their flavour is, "untamed wild", the "toughest" or simply "the ultimate singletrack experience".
On a scale of 1 to 5 how would you rate this race?
On a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being good) I would say 5
What make of Bike and Set-up were you using?
I use a Rocky Mountain Element with Shimano XTR DCL and a 5 inch Marzocchi xc 700 fork
How Epic was the Race?
Any race is as Epic as you want to make it, 30 hours in a single week is over the top
Would you do the race again and why?
Of course I will race it again, it's what I do, big hard long races.
